|--- David Dayton's Unofficial, Unlicensed, Unauthorized Nintendo Code Book ---| --- List of Revisions --- "Say, why are you reading this section anyway? Who cares about the previous versions???" Here is the revision log of the code book. Most of the early editions of this code book have been lost through one computer break down or another, and the revision file itself has been changed a few times. If anyone comes across any of the early copies of the code book (anything before the 4.x versions), please send them my way. For the sake of posterity (well, maybe just for my own amusement), this log chronicles the life of the code book, and further demonstrates my own lack of one. Enjoy! As a side note, the earliest versions of this code book were compiled on an Atari XEGS computer system with one XF511 360k 5.25" floppy drive. The chapters were often distributed on the FIDONet video game echo (message board) from a local Sacramento BBS (named "Your BBS"), and the entire book was archived as an ARC file and uploaded to various local BBS's (or, if I had a free trial, to Compuserve, Delphi, and the rest). It wasn't until midway through my first year of college that the code book was transferred over to an IBM compatible system (MSDOS/Win3.11). |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| Ver. 8.0 - May 5th, 2002 The GameCube is doing well. Resident Evil for the GameCube is consuming much of my time. Lots of nice new codes in this edition. New since last edition: ALL-STAR BASEBALL 2003 (gc) BRITNEY'S DANCE BEAT (gba) BUGS BUNNY'S CRAZY CASTLE 4 (gbc) DAFFY DUCK: FOWL PLAY (gbc) GT ADVANCE 2: RALLY RACING (gba) MAT HOFFMAN'S PRO BMX (gbc) MICKEY'S ULTIMATE CHALLENGE (snes) NBA COURTSIDE 2002 (gc) NUCLEAR STRIKE 64 (n64) POWERPUFF GIRLS: CHEMICAL X-TRACTION (n64) PRINCE OF PERSIA (nes) RESIDENT EVIL (gc) THE SCORPION KING (gba) THE SMURFS (snes) SPIDER-MAN: THE MOVIE (gc) 2002 FIFA WORLD CUP (gc) WOLFENSTEIN 3-D (gba) Updated: DAVE MIRRA FREESTYLE BMX 2 (gc) DREAM T.V. (snes) EXTREME-G 3 (gc) THE HUMANS (gb) JAMES BOND 007: AGENT UNDER FIRE (gc) LOONEY TUNES B-BALL (snes) MADDEN 64 (n64) METAL MARINES (snes) PITMAN (gb) SOCCER SLAM (gc) STAR WARS: ROGUE LEADER - ROGUE SQUADRON 2 (gc) X-MEN: MUTANT APOCALYPSE (snes) |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| Ver. 7.6 - March 26th, 2002 GameCube and Game Boy Advance codes dominate the new additions, but the Game & Watch is entered into the code book for the first time. If it matters, I've also changed the chapter names for the HTML version on the website. Ver. 7.5 - Feb. 17th, 2002 Another year begins! So many codes, and now at a new URL. The current URL is http://codebook.potchgult.com. Ver 7.4 - December 29th, 2001 Just a few codes to end the new year... including codes for Super Smash Bros. Melee -- my favorite game of the year. Or decade. One of the two. Ver. 7.3 - November 25th, 2001 The GameCube is here, and codes have been added. Ver. 7.2 - November 6th, 2001 Tons of Game Boy Advance codes added, and the Game Cube is here in less than two weeks. Things will be getting busy... The HTML version of the code book is currently floating on a free web server, with the actual ZIP archive of the code book on the Yahoo code book update mailing list group file server. It's clumsy, but it will do for now. Ver. 7.1 - September 2cd, 2001 Things have been bad for the code book this year, and the server has changed frequently. Stals.com was gone in mid June, and the Xoom/NBCI server went down in July. Also, Bigfoot changed their policies. This means my e-mail and server have all changed. Sigh. Luckily, I now own a domain or two, and the future should be fairly stable... provided I keep updating this mess. Version 7.0 wasn't very widespread, due to these problems. 7.1 should be much more available, and contains the first Game Boy Advance codes. Many of these codes were available several months ago, but the revised version of the book simply wasn't available. Ver. 7.0 - April 27th, 2001 More updates. There's even a Game Boy Advance system code. Ver. 6.6 - March 19th, 2001 I slowly update. The HTML indexing is better now, though. Ver. 6.5 - January 28th, 2001 The first update of the new millenium. Exciting, eh? Ver. 6.4 - December 10th, 2000 I've FINALLY updated, with some new codes. More to come, soon. Ver. 6.3 - August 25th, 2000 More codes added. Slight revamping of preface and web page. The Game Boy Advance and Game Cube have been revealed just a few days ago, and I am already interested. Ver. 6.2 - July 8th, 2000 - 12:00 a.m. More codes added. Nothing of real importance to note. Ver. 6.1 - May 28th, 2000 - 4:41 p.m. More codes added. I revamped the HTML generator... it looks lousy, but it works better. Sigh. Ver. 6.0 - April 5th, 2000 - 4:10 a.m. I really wanted to get this update out on April 16th, to match the 6th anniversary of the code book. Oh well. Ver. 5.9a - February 11th, 2000 - 1:40 a.m. Second update of the final year of the 20th century. Not much to it, but I thought I should get at least 1 update a month out. Ver. 5.9 - January 3rd, 2000 - 11:01 p.m. First update of the final year of the 20th century. Ver. 5.8 - December 12th, 1999 - 2:07 a.m. The code book is now more than 1 megabyte of pure text! Ver. 5.7 - November 11th, 1999 - 9:20 p.m. I have officially taken control of the famous SNES Cheats and Spoilers List, last maintained by Jenn Dolari (dolari@dragondata.com), which was based upon a list originally created by Craig H. Heartwell (craig@sae.com), Robert DeLoura (deloura@noaapmel.gov) and Tony Iaconetti (IACONETTI_A@spcvxa.spc.edu). They had a LONG list of contributors. This list will be kept, as will the last official version of the SNES Cheats and Spoilers list, on my home page. All standard game codes found in the list are found in the Code Book. Game Genie codes will NOT be transferred... you will have to view the SNES C&S list for that. For the record, while I will take merge the old codes into the new code book, all entries in the Nintendo Code Book remain under my copyright. That is, everything in the Nintendo Code Book will continue to be written by me. The original SNES Cheats and Spoilers list will remain in the domain of that which is freely distributed to all and no copyright seems to be claimed. Ver. 5.6a - October 9th, 1999 - 6:13 p.m. As 5.6 never got around be being released except for the disk copy... here it is! Codes added, and I finally was made aware of the fact that the HTML version wasn't displaying many codes (the one's with < symbols in them) properly. It's fixed now. Ver. 5.6 - September 28th, 1999 - 9:11 p.m. More codes added. Lots of them. Really. First copies of the code book are sold on floppy disk! Ver. 5.5 - August 3rd, 1999 - 6:10 p.m. More codes added...er...changed server data once more. The next Game Boy has been announced (Game Boy Advanced), so I have to figure out how to include that one in the codes. Ver. 5.4 - July 31st, 1999 - 5:45 a.m. Added more codes. That's really all there is. New download function on the WWW page, though. Ver. 5.3 - July 19th, 1999 - 2:30 p.m. Added codes, moved the web page to a new server, revamped the preface, and did a few things. Excited yet? Ver. 5.2 - June 24th, 1999 - 12:04 a.m. Added lots of codes. Nothing else of real importance to add. Ver. 5.1 - May 27th, 1999 - 12:40 a.m. Added lots of codes, fixed some problems. Not the best update I've ever done. Much too busy recently. However, it seemed like I should this a bit more often than I have in the past. Much more work planned for version 5.2, if I have any free time. Sigh. Ver. 5.0 - April 16th, 1999 12:16 a.m. Fixed some of the preface text... it seems that for the past two years I've been referring to the NESCODES.TXT file as CODEBOOK.TXT. Never changed the boilerplate after making a file change, I guess. Also, I noticed that the "Files in this archive" section didn't note that the NESCODES.TXT file, which the preface is in, is in the archive! Sigh. That's been a problem since 4.6, it seems. The HTML version handles "please see" entries a bit better now, but it is still clumsy. ==== 5 Years! With it comes version 5.0 ==== Ver. 4.9b - March 26th, 1999 11:53 a.m. Several codes added. Introduction of the "partial" check notes. My birthday. NES World is back online. A nice day, overall. Fixed some typos (why was 1/2 of the Kirby Super Star entry missing? Why did I write "you" instead of "your" in the ver 4.0 revision entry?) Ver. 4.9a - Feb. 18th, 1999 1:18 a.m. Lots of codes added. Er... nothing much else to say. Version 5.0 will be released on the 5th anniversary of the file. Whee. Ver. 4.9 - Jan. 11th, 1999 9:00 a.m. We ring in the new year with some Game Boy Color codes, and the new mailing list for code book updates. Ver. 4.8b - Dec. 28th, 1998 9:53 p.m. Fixed incorrect mailing list information in ver 4.8a! Ver. 4.8a - Dec. 27th, 1998 2:00 a.m. Fixed some errors, added 2 games, and added mailing list info. Ver. 4.8 - Dec. 4th, 1998 4:29 a.m. More games covered. Busy playing Zelda 64. Go away... (drool) Ver. 4.7 - Nov. 4th, 1998 11:13 p.m. 1058 games covered. Many new codes, and much more coverage of the N64. The HTML version of the code book is currently on the Web, as well. Ver. 4.6+ - Sept. 27, 1998 I plug the HTML version up on the web... Ver. 4.6 - Sept. 02, 1998 8:10 p.m. 1050 games now covered. First use of assist. editors to proof the codes and of the "checked-yes/checked-no" flags. I'm out of school. ** Author's Note: I graduated from college. So long, free time... Ver. 4.5 - June 24, 1998 4:48 a.m. 1000 games are now covered! Woo-hoo! ==== 4 Years! April 16, 1998... one day after release 4.4! Ver. 4.4 - April 15, 1998 2:47 a.m. Yep - another overhaul. Added more games. Fixed a few minor bugs. Ver. 4.3 - March 4, 1998 4:48 a.m. Overhaul, added codes, etc. Combined the preface and the body of the codes into a single file. Added lots of codes. Fixed stuff. Ver. 4.2 - October 28, 1997 3:51 a.m. Another overhaul. Added many N64 codes. Fixed the N64 controller designations. Added my new e-mail address. Put in reference to my homepage. Returned to the 1 huge file technique. ==== 3 Years, and going strong! April 16, 1997 (Sadly, no special version was released for this happy occasion) Ver. 4.1 - January 10th, 1997 3:30 a.m. Large overhaul. Fixed errors, added many codes, came down with a firm designation for all N64 controller buttons, etc. Due to some problems during transport this year, I misplaced some addresses/names of registered users. These names will be added into future editions. Split main text body into three chunks. That should do it - for now. Ver. 4.0 - August 4th, 1996 11:30 p.m. Twice during this edition, Windows successfully deleted/scrambled my files. Once my fault, once mostly Windows' fault. Grr.. the second time it deleted everything from Strider onwards. I had to go through and manually search for all the codes I added since the last computer error. Luckily only a minor section of code needed repair ... sigh. Major changes include the compilation of all the chapters into 1 file, the dropping of the SF_MOVES text file and the GIF title page, a working model for the Nintendo 64 controller button designations, various minor errata corrected, and many more codes. Keep sending your suggestions, folks. Ver. 3.3 - May 21st, 1996 12:30 a.m. Dates fixed - ver. 3.20 was released in Jan 96, not 1995! Added codes, minor errors fixed. Revamped title page GIF. Special thanks to fiscal contributers added to preface. ==== 2 Year Anniversary! April 16, 1996 ==== (again, no special version was released for this happy occasion) Ver. 3.20 - January 14, 1996 5:23:03 a.m. Ah - perfection, at least for now. More codes, a more unified style. Ver. 3.01 - December 21, 1995 2:31:10 a.m. It took several months, but this new updated version is better than ever! Please note the nice, neat .GIF title page and the MANY new passwords. Primary highlights are the 5 scanned images on the title page and the codes for 3 different Virtual Boy games. Ver. 3.00c - August 1, 1995 11:08 p.m. Fixed a bug found in Version 3.00b - various files had a lot of extra junk tacked on to the end of them - I think it was due to a minor crash in my system. The entire collection of files has been tinkered with so as to fit the most text in as few pages as possible. All the code files have been formatted for 80 columns, and no line goes beyond that or even meets 80 columns! The most is 79 with a [CR] character. A few codes may have been added - I am unsure. Also, I tried to make sure that all lists of codes given in columns follow the same general order - most do, now. My completion of 2 new BASIC text utilities speeds up the formatting process, bringing my total of personal BASIC programs to 4 (which are presently being used to create this collection). Title page GIF now contains shots of all 5 Nintendo home systems - but I am still looking for a scanned image of an NES - I drew the existing one freehand. An improved shot of a standard Game Boy would help too - the clear one I used just doesn't show up well. This was to be uploaded to Delphi, but Delphi's file transfers locked up after the first 15k. Ver. 3.00b - June 29, 1995 8:26 p.m. Minor adjustments and added codes. FILE_ID.DIZ added to the archive. The successful port and redevelopment of my exclusive indexing and numbering programs means that the index will be more accurate and complete than ever before! This version (if all goes well) will be the first version available via CompuServe. Ver. 3.00a - June 16, 1995 3:07 p.m. Access to new computer services brings in dozens of codes and tricks! The title page GIF has been changed, giving Mario blue overalls and a red shirt. This version was uploaded to America Online. Ver. 3.00 - June 5, 1995 10:14 p.m. After about 1 month, I finally get around to releasing this. Due to my new computer setup, this collection is now ZIPped (not ARCced), and includes a .GIF title page... otherwise, it's still a gigantic revamp! New codes, new symbols, a new and better preface, an index and a revision list. ** Author's Note: This is the point at which the code book was transferred ** from my Atari computer to the IBM clone. ==== 1 Year of Existence! April 16, 1995 ==== (note: No special version was released for this happy occasion) Ver. 2.2b - Jan. 7, 1995 12:32 a.m. New Zelda entries: locations of all Heart Containers (and various other items) for all the games; various codes; correction of some minor errors. Big news! Every game is now clearly labeled with the appropriate system name. Ver. 2.2a - Dec. 11, 1994 3:06 p.m. 2 Super Metroid codes, a Mortal Kombat noise code, and some Mighty Morphin Power Rangers passwords. Ver. 2.2 - Dec. 1, 1994 3:50 p.m. A few more codes... Ver. 2.11 - Nov. 23, 1994 3:32 a.m. A few more codes... Ver. 2.1 - Oct. 28, 1994 4:02 p.m. Tons of additional codes! Reformatting of many sections of text! Addition of a "Street Fighting Games Move List"(SF_MOVES). Does life get much better than this? Ver. 2.0 - Oct. 21, 1994 7:25 p.m. Beta test version - never released to the public. Ver. 1.4 - Oct. 1, 1994 10:38 p.m. Yeah yeah - more codes. The over-frequency of new releases tires me. Ver. 1.3 - Sept. 15, 1994 9:55 p.m. Another month passes, as does a new version of this mess. However, this does have more codes. ** I start college -- August, 1994 ** Ver. 1.22 - Aug. 10, 1994 1:41 a.m. 11 days passed... what was I thinking? Ver. 1.21 - July 30, 1994 5:52 p.m. One day later - minor problems fixed. Did I even release this one??? Ver. 1.2 - July 29, 1994 12:50 a.m. More codes! Ver. 1.1 - July 13, 1994 12:39 p.m. I finally get around to releasing my expanded version with additional codes. Ver. 1.0 - April 16, 1994 2:13 p.m. After about 1.5 years and various disk failures, I _FINALLY_ finish the stupid thing!
