alrighty here we go last time we talked about all hardwire systems where you have to physically run a wire from your panel to a door/window now what happens if its either not possable, or the customer simply doesnt want wires all over the place? there is a neat litle noption on most newer systems to have a wireless device now, im going to go over this in sectios first I will discuss the types of wireless devices, as I did before with teh hardwire ones :bonusbug!bbug@bu-6459CBA7.l.pppool.de PART #lecture then I willl talk more about the methods involved in how they communicate with the panel finally I am going to go over how the panel relays wireless data to the central station any questions so far? none? alrighty now, basically wireless is almost the same as hardwire astetically the only differance being that the hardwire contacts are usually small enough to hide inside a door frame not so with wireless the contacts are usually about the size of a flash drive, with a bit more gurth and the magnets are a bit larger as well the motion detectors are about the same size so, how do they work? well, if you couldnt tell, they are battery operated the ones i use run off a 3.6v lithum battery, which will last anywhere from 5-7 years ok, so now we know how they are powered so what the heck do they do? its simple really, they do almost exactly the same thing a hardwire contact does reports to the panel when the magnet is removed from the contact simulating a door/window opening the motions work off the same ideas as hardwire ones also IR beams that need otbe triped in order to set off an alarm questions? yeah Same. Ch4r you first please. why do the most idiotic people always IM me when I'm trying to attend a lecture? :P hmm, ask the idiots :) ^.^ ok nullLink, go ahead ;) Lol Anyways, I was wondering I'm sure your going to cover this, But do they use the normal 802.11 or something else? its its own protocol every panel is different all propriotary Okay anyone else? ok, lets plug on shall we now, here is the biggest thing during this lecture HOW in fact does the panel and the device communicate last lecture we never discussed wireless recievers, so thats where im going to start for now just think about the contact transmitting a signal through the air anytime it is tripped its up to the panel to catch that transmission, interpret it, and respond accordingly in order to catch it there are a few options :bic!biC_@bu-87078F5F.sea2.cablespeed.com JOIN :#lecture there are what we call RF keypads which stands for Radio Frequency there are also recievers that wire directly into the panel, on parallel with a kaypad keypad* both simply recieve data and send it to the panel. questions? i got one but its not covered yet, or maybe it was in the last lecture ask and ill let you know card readers and the cards thats a whole other beast ok nvm then continue card access systems are an entirely differeny system ok alrighty now that our panel is capable of reading signals, how does it know which contact is which? well, each contact comes prefab with a serial number hardcoded into it most are about 7 hex digits but ive seen as high as 9 now, when someone is installing the system they have to manually program each contact into the panel on what we call zones a zone is simply each individual opening or group of openings as it appears on the panel for instance lets say I have a house with a front and back door, and one window chances are I would loop together the back door and window, since they are both perimeter openings and leave the front door on its own zone so it will be known specifically to the user when it is open so lets say I am now a user. I go to my keypad and I see that it says: zone 2 open I know that is either my back door, or my window, wher as zone 1 is ONLy the front door questions? nope bunch of geniuses tonight! lol im impressed anyways Well I came into the middle of it, so i'll wait to ask questions later. plug on I shall! now, on MOST panels, only hardwire contacts can be on the same zone ive never seen one to the contrary but im not going to say one doesnt exist so, if the back door had to go wireless I would now have zones 1-3, front door, window, and back door with 3 being the wireless again questions? well, thats the major part of that section. Now its on to how the panel reports the contact information to the central station there are a few different reporting formats in use today one being contact ID, which will report the ID number of the contact in specific. Another is zone reporting, which makes the wireless look just like hardwire I personally use zone formatting, so it all comes up as zone numbers which is much easier for both the user and the operations at the monitoring station questions? not here alright, so I believe someone asked as to protocol I know only the basics here, because ive never had to actually debug one basically, the transmitter will encrypt its serial number, how I have no idea and the reciever is capable of decrypting it, again I have no clue as to algorithms damm, that was the wireless lecture haha, I was expecting a million questions like last time lol any questions anyone? not from me.. alright, well lets go ahead and break into lecture # 3 then this one is going to cover some programming, and basically what kind of information is programmable into a panel, and what you ahve to do to get at it actually, I lied lets change that up a bit alright, im going to go ahead and go more in depth as to how certanin devices work motions in particualr as well as ways to get around them a fallacy if you will ok, motions are all well and good, but what if someone has a pat, and the pet needs to walk around at night? obviously we cant have pets tripping motions all night so, we have what we call PIR's Pet immume motions basically now how do they work im going to cover one of the more advanced motions I have seen, because it has all the functionality there are a few different things the motion is looking for besides the tripping of the IR beas beams* first off, if the motions senses motion below a certain range (3-4 feet) its going to compare the image it sees to one in memory these motions are no longer looking in 2d this motion is actually capable of taking a 3D image of whatever it is looking at by bounding certain types of things around the room sound / IR /depends on the motion think of it like echo location anyways, the motions will take the image they see, and compare it to ones stored in memory and if its a pet, discard it questions thus far as to the motions? nope, I'm with you alrighty now, I believe someone else asked las lecture and if they didnt Ill bring it up anyways what about heat and cold? changes in temprature can make the air move which can make a motion false so, these motions also detect heat in a few different ways twhen someone walks into a room, it can see a thermal image of the person, which it compares to the walls of the room if you ahve ever seen a thermal image, you know that blue is colder than red it will basically see the shape of a person in red walking around a wall of blue nifty interesting question i got one, when it's my turn can these things tell exact position in a room yes, but it really doesnt matter and i tried typing something a min ago im guna repost it if there is motion, it doesnt matter where its just looking for motion i work somewhere that has little octagon sensors on every ceiling of every room with a little green light that blinks or some of them the octagon thing turns red durring movement the motion im describing isnt a standrd motion ah ok the standard ones are not so advanced, but im still talking about residential equipment this is all avaliable to any alarm company ok go ahead mu two questions or three not sure yet but, is the resident's motions also stored in mem? you mean, are the peoples image stored in memory? yes ok, maybe I explained not enough there is not an exact image of each per /person it has general images pre programmed into it as to what a dog SHOULD look like or what person SHOULD look like answer your question? ok, then how is that not self-defeating, if a stranger breaches the sensor? its probably very dynamic the way the sensor recognized an object well, when the alarm is set any motion trips it when its not set, it doesnt matter including a resident's? i'm confused no motion makes any differance when the alarm is not set when the alarm is set ANY motion that is not a pet will trip it so yes, the resident will trip the motion so if you have to go pee, you turn off the alarm? or dont have the motions on at night only the doors and windows =/ ok but yes, you would ahve to turn it off if it was on is there a remote? motions are generally used when people leave there are in fact remotes yes ok i'm done ty alrighty :) now, I was mentioning a person walking around that is another way the motions sence movement, the red contrasting on the blue so to recap, we have: 1) infa red beams 2) 3d imaging 3) heat 4) pre programmed targets all helping the motion decide how to react as you can see, these things get much more advanced than first meets the eye there is one flaw I have found with ALL motions though they will not see through glass so, if you are outside a store window a motion will not detect you, no matter how much you walk around before you all get happy thinking that you can just walk around with a big piece of glass remember the heat and 3d imaging which is a large reason for why those exist questions? well what if so proprietars go on CcSsNET you had a very cold piece of glass then it would be 3d imaging left no? and the heat radiating from your body true ok nvm your right about the sensors not sensing threw glass though i notice that all the time at work offices and such so, what do proprietars do? just get the cops to cruise by every so often? neat ? business owners the police would be called if the alarm went off =/ for buisness's it depends if a gaurd is present i mean if someone were casing ah if a gaurd is there the gaurd is called first, second call if no awnser then the cops are no, most of them dont work like that they call the monitoring station first who calls the police as well as the busisness owner and their contact list I thought we went over that last time? yeah we did well the monitoring station is the one that knows in the first place and there the ones making the calls yes but if there's no guards the only time the cops are called is if the alarm is tripped im a security gaurd btw lol if someone's casing at night what do you mean, casing? and not MESSING like, walking around outside looking for vulns not touching just looking o ok then no, nothing is going to happen but keep in mind most motions are indoors that's why they have security cams ok and there is not always glas fronts to places go on security cameras are again, another fiels, maybe ill do a lecture on them as well as card access sometime field* ok ty alrighty so now we know some more about motion contacts are simple, on and off nothing special smoke is the same nothing special, detect smoke, sound the alarm did I talk about glass breaks last lecture? nope I don't think so ok there are a few types of glass breaks all detect the breaking of glass the old ones used to be a bunch o foil, which acted as if it were a wire, and if the glass broke, so did the foil, which broke the circuit the foil was on the glass more advnaced ones use tone to detect the sound of breaking glass it simply listens for a certain frequency range and trips it if the range is heard questions? hrm what if someone used a glass cutter and suction cup? these things trip if I tap my keys on the glass ok they are over sensitive ive even seen a glass breaking on a TV show trip them :) nice beacuse it sounded close enough damn that'd be annoying indeed ok, so now we know some more sensors lets talk about programming now this is really why the installer knows more than the user, and what seperated the two the ability to get into panel programming and knowing what to do once you are their there* unfortunatly there are literally hundreds of types of panels out there so going into specifics as to how to program one is really a waste of time, unless you actually go install one but generally im going to just show whats possable now, there are codes that turn alarms on and off there is a mster code, which is used by the main user a user code, often times given to a maid and an installer code the installer code has both more and less power than thge master code if you turn the system on with a master code, usually the installer code is not capable of turning the system off to prevent your installer from robbing you but, most of the time, the installer code can reset all codes so if your alarm is turned off, and somone knows how, then can reset or aff a code to your system add* questions? not from me nope ok, so now we know the installer code, which ADT's standard is **** yes I did that on purpouse anyways bad humor sorry now we know the instaler code so we need ot get into system programming this is only avaliable once the system has been turned off as in not armed and only accesable usign the installer code now, we go ahead and get into programming what the heck can we do now? well, most panels have a system of fields set up where each field has certain bits of data which tell that panel what to do lets say for instance field 41 (*41) is the phone number to callcentral station we can go ahead and get into field 41, and change the phone number everyone following so far? yes, and you said all this is done in hex? certain fields are in hex most are done in decimal ok i'm good reporting options are usually hex but its panel specific oh? what kind of options? for example? as in weather or notto report im getting there next ;) ok, mu brings up the next part of programming zone programming this is where the zones are basically created you can specify reporting options, which ill cover ina minute the type of zone, weather its an entry exit zone, or a perimeter, motion, smoke. . . .etc and eather or not it is a wireless zone if it is further programming is needed ok, now reporting options lets say you dont want a certain zone to call central station when it goes off you jsut want it to set off the siren and make all kinds of noise you can go into zone programming and zero out the repoting options, which makes it a "local zone" or one that wont report questions? why would you do that? if you have somehting you dont want to report for instance ADT has said that wireless remots are no longer allowed to report because they got too many flase alarms on them after novermber 15th of 2005 installers were told to make them local only hrm I can still make them report, and ADT wouldnt be able to tell the differance but we were told not to i bet that makes rich homeowners happy well, when something reports ADT gets teh device type which is mainly used for wireless and they get the signal type so if I program it as a normal signal I can make it report with them not knowing the doifferance hrm so my old dude neighbor needs to be aware of this, if he's wireless how long has he had it? if it slonger than november 15th of 2005 its alreadty reporting normally ok yeah, he's had it a few years ok, no worries then i'm done, ty alrighty alright, those are the major parts of programming, usually the installer code can only be changed from programming meaning you need the code to change the code actualy, if no one else has any significat questions or anything else they want to know. Thats pretty much ALL of the securiy information I was planning on sharing we have gone over hardwire/wireless/and programming hrm as well as some more and how it all works well in wireless the rest of the information is much too panel specific to get into again, the signals can be scrambled? like I said last lecture. The only time I have seen them scrambeled was a large van filled to the brim with equipment and all it did was block them ok i'm good, then thanks
