How to make a videophone by avid Here is an interesting way to transmit pictures over a regular phone line. For this experiment lowtec & I used MMSSTV (http://www.qsl.net/mmhamsoft/mmsstv/), a microphone and speakers attached to our PC. However, any SSTV software will likely work. How it works: Have your friend load MMSSTV and set it to receive. Have them hold thier microphone to the speaker of the telephone handset. It may be better to use an induction coil, also known as a telephone pickup. You should now load an image into MMSSTV. Place your speakers at an appropriate volume, so that the volume is loud but doesn't distort while sounding into the phone mouthpiece. note: It's best to use a corded phone, as some cordless phones don't take well to acoustic coupling. Place the microphone of your telephone handset close to your speaker, and press transmit. Wait until the tones have stopped, and your friend should have received your image. Trouble shooting: Make sure your microphone is directly on the earpiece, that your microphone settings are not muted, and that the microphone gain on your Windows sound mixer is at an appropriate level. If you're the party transmitting the image, adjust your speaker volume. Try placing the microphone of the handset on the speaker, or backing off from the speaker. +++ 12:48 AM 3/29/2004 -------------------- 206-984-evil
